BNP, All Things To All Men

When Maryport Against Racism members confronted the BNP head on at their stall in Maryport on Curzon street in the run up to the 2007 local elections they were told by no other than Martin Wingfield himself that the BNP is just like Old Labour. Their election leaflets focus in on worries about jobs and welfare, the NHS etc. typical ground for Old Labour and shifting in on the ground abandoned by New Labour. Interesting to see then that the BNP are also, just like the Tories. Local fascist Clive Jefferson has said on his blog

“The reality of politics in Cumbria is that although Labour still hold, all be it temporarily, in most of the urban areas, Cameron’s pink Tories have slipped a velvet fist around the County. We have reached an level of expansion now that allows us to start our campaigning in the rural areas and have started to produce literature specifically for these new wards.”

Whereas the BNP try to pose as ordinary working class people standing for ordinary working class issues in places like Maryport, Whitehaven and in Slate Fell Cockermouth, in their new leaflets, they jump on right wing bandwagon, rubbishing the idea of Class and whinging about how hard it is to own a country estate.

This goes to show that whatever the BNP say, you just can’t trust them, they’re Socialist’s one day and Conservatives the next. The BNP have no real policies, they just grab onto anything populist just so they can get elected. They are just another bunch of lying, self serving politicians who couldn’t give a toss about the people they wish to represent.

  1. ‘All things to all men.’ Sorry – isn’t that sexist or something in the liberal-leftist lexicon of abuse?

Actually, being all things to all men is the Lib-Dem forte.

The BNP has its faults, no doubt, But Wingfied was right whan he said the BNP is effectively the Old Labour Party. Most Old Labourites would recognise many BNP policies as familiar, not excluding those on race and related matters.

New Labour has been so engrossed in sucking up to the middle ground in a few volatile constituencies that has completely ignored its core support. The BNP on the other hand has addressed their concerns and made them its special concern.

That’s why, slowly but surely, it is taking New Labour’s suppport away. In many areas, New Labour is being squeezed between the BNP on the one hand and Cameron’s pink tories on the other.

What happend in Glasgow is what happens when you take voters too much for granted for too long

Can you back this up or are you just stating pure rubbish as fact and hoping no-one disagrees with it.

I agree that Labour and the Tories fight for the centre ground has isolated voters although this isn’t because the working class are racists or are crying out for a fascist government. Right wing gutter press such as the Daily Mail, Express and The Sun all play a part in the BNP’s growing popularity. I would say though that contrary to popular belief, the BNP’s support isn’t primarily amongst the working classes but more amongst the small business men or as the press would call them “white van men”.

The BNP posing as Socialists in working class areas and old style Tories in rural areas though simply shows that they will say and do anything to get elected.
